NEP UK Becomes the First in Europe to Purchase the Latest Sony HDC Cameras
NEP UK, leading provider of live broadcast solutions and part of the NEP Group worldwide network, has become the first in Europe to invest in a number of Sony HDC-3500V cameras to enhance its technical delivery of broadcast services.
The HDC-3500V camera is the latest addition to NEP UK’s growing collection of Sony cameras and offers an optical variable ND filter, which allows operators to control the depth of field in their images and generate more creative options.
This purchase follows NEP UK’s investment in the Sony HDC-F5500 cameras, which deliver a shallow depth of field with S35mm Large Format to live production workflows, alongside the ILME-FR7 and HDR capable monitors, including the PVM-X2400 and LMD-A240 models.
The HDC-3500V’s newly developed Virtual Iris function with optical Variable ND filter allows vision engineers to remain within a chosen iris ‘sweet spot’ on the attached lens by adjusting light levels entering the camera without changing its iris value. This allows a chosen iris value, and depth of field, to be maintained under varying light conditions, adjusting brightness using the optical variable ND filter rather than altering iris in the lens.
NEP UK broadcasts many of the most highly-anticipated shows and events across sports and entertainment, from the Premier League football to the Eurovision Song Contest. The newly purchased HDC-3500V cameras are set to be used for a number of exciting projects upcoming in 2024.
“We’re always looking to pair our amazing people with the latest technologies when it comes to pushing the envelope in terms of what we offer to our clients for their events around the world”, said Donald Begg, Senior Director of Engineering and Technology of NEP UK. “The variable ND filter in the HDC-3500V permits, if desired, the creation of images with a distinctive artistic tone, and we have been witnessing a growing appetite for that look and feel from our clients”.
“NEP and Sony have been working hand in hand for many years to deliver innovative technological solutions that make images stand out and this latest commitment is no exception”, said Norbert Paquet, Head of Live Production, Sony Europe.
